Citrus College issued the following announcement on Nov. 4
Recognized as a top community college for Hispanic students for more than a decade, Citrus College was recently ranked among the country's top 100 colleges and universities, according to an annual list from the Hispanic Outlook on Education magazine.
The publication, which has served the Hispanic community for 30 years, used data from the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System and National Center for Education Statistics to determine which colleges and universities from across the nation enrolled and awarded degrees to the most Hispanic students.
In its October issue, the magazine ranked Citrus College in the top 10 colleges and universities in two categories: ninth in the country for conferring family and consumer sciences/human sciences degrees to Hispanic students, and 10th in the country for conferring English language and literature/letters degrees to Hispanic students.
"Being recognized as one of the top degree producers in the nation for Hispanic students reflects our commitment to serving our diverse student body," said Dr. Geraldine M. Perri, superintendent/president of Citrus College. "The faculty and staff at Citrus College are dedicated to providing all students with the programs and tools they need to succeed."
Additionally, the publication ranked Citrus College 17th in the country for total associate degrees awarded to Hispanic students in 2019, and 31st in the country among two-year schools for total Hispanic student enrollment in the 2018-2019 academic year.
Being included in the "Top 100 Schools for Hispanics" list is one of several recognitions that Citrus College has received from the publication. For more than 10 years, Citrus College has been recognized by the magazine as one of the nation's top community colleges.
Additionally, in January, Citrus College was ranked first among all public two-year community colleges in the country for the second consecutive year for the number of associate degrees awarded in English language and literature/letters to minority students, according to Diverse: Issues in Higher Education, a national newsmagazine.
"I am so proud to see Citrus College be included on the Hispanic Outlook on Education magazine's top colleges and universities list," said Dr. Patricia A. Rasmussen, president of the Citrus Community College District Board of Trustees. "Without our incredibly dedicated faculty and staff, such an accomplishment would not be possible."
