CITY OF INDUSTRY: New Outdoor Business Assistance Grant Program

Biz

City of Industry issued the following announcement on Oct. 8

Today, the City of Industry launched their Outdoor Business Assistance Grant Program to help alleviate the financial burden local businesses are facing as they pivot to set up outdoor operations during the COVID-19 pandemic. The new program will reimburse businesses located within the city for up to $5,000 for outdoor equipment purchased or rented after March 1, 2020, including portable canopies, barriers, chairs, tables, umbrellas, hand washing and sanitizing stations.

“The City continues to work hard to support our local businesses that have been deeply affected since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in March,” said City of Industry Mayor Cory Moss. “Our priority is to listen to our business community and help address issues they are facing, because when our businesses thrive, our City thrives.”

The City has set aside $200,000 to fund the program and grants will be dispersed on a first come, first serve basis. A maximum of one grant may be provided to each business and businesses will not be required to repay grants awarded. Interested businesses can apply at www.cityofindustry.org/about-industry/outdoor-business-assistance-grant-program.

“We are so grateful to the City for establishing this program and working hard to assist restaurants with the added financial burdens brought on by the pandemic,” said Debbie Wade, owner of Tepeyac Restaurant & Tequila Sports Bar. “Actions like these will slowly allow us to grow again and help us bring back our valued employees that we had to let go. We thank the City for having our back.”

The new program is part of a resolution passed at an Aug. 27 City Council meeting that also approved outdoor operations for all businesses who are interested in expanding their business outdoors. This measure amends a previous measure approved in June which allowed local restaurants to apply for outdoor dining and advertising permits.

The City continues to explore ways it can continue to support local businesses during this pandemic. In June, the City amended local laws to expand outdoor dining and advertising for businesses and created a COVID-19 Employee Testing Reimbursement program that reimburses businesses for up to $10,000 in employee testing costs.
